Winter Flowers: And Other Signs of Redemption by Jo Kadlecek

Jo Kadlecek

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

Even in the intricacy of creation we see the proclamation of God’s redeeming love at work. Jo Kadlecek pieces together a tapestry of essays that reveal God’s constant though sometimes innocuous works of reclaimation. These stories, many personal in nature, will inspire a new sensitivity to God’s work in this post-modern world.

Daily Chase: In Hot Pursuit of His Presence by Tommy Tenney

Tommy Tenney

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

There is a vast difference between having an encounter with God and having a relationship with Him. It’s like the difference between a sprint and a marathon. Anyone can start a marathon-but the honor goes to those who finish and finish well.

A marathon is more than just a Sunday morning “fun run.” It requires dedication, determination, and discipline. It means staying the course-running even when you’d rather give up and collapse. Stamina and direction can be more important than speed.

This book is dedicated to people who are more than Sunday morning sprinters. They understand that a relationship with God is a Daily Chase.

May this devotional be fuel for those dedicated God chasers who do not simply desire to run, but to finish the race and finish well.

This book is more than a Sunday morning “fun run.” This is a red lights flashing, sirens blaring, “in-hot-pursuit” book!

Read and Run!

Reflecting God by Wesley Tracy

Wesley Tracy

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

’Come!’ God’s invitation is simple, but the barriers that exist between ourselves and a holy Father are vast. He has invited each of us, no matter who we may be, to an intimate fellowship with Him. Coauthors Gary Cockerill, Donald Demaray, Steve Harper, and Wes Tracy help Christians understand God’s desire to cross the barriers to closeness. Reflecting God presents a journey to intimacy by recognizing obstacles and developing habits that bring Christians and those around them to a deeper understanding of intimacy and love. Begin the journey toward intimacy with God with this new study celebrating the holy optimism of grace and love. Reflecting God combines the best biblical scholarship of the Wesleyan-Holiness denominations with the opportunity for inner reflection. The Reflecting God pupil book is supplemented with a leader’s guide and workbook for Bible study, Sunday School, or small group. Each of these resources provides another opportunity to grow in Christ as a person or as a community.

Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection - Floyd Mcclung (DVD)

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

Floyd McClung is senior Pastor of the Metro Christian Fellowship of Kansas City and senior leader of Grace Ministries. He has been with YWAM (Youth with a Mission) for over thirty years. The son of a pastor he became a Christian at the age of twelve. He wanted to go to Benares, India, because so many young people were studying there. He eventually stayed three years in Kabul, Afghanistan. He discovered that he lacked compassion for and understanding of drug addicts. You must love, accept and walk with them. Once he shared his fears, his struggles, they began to trust him, and the God he trusted. You trust, not because you get what you want, but because you are loyal. And he needed to trust because his 23 year old daughter was stricken with an incurable illness. I trust God, even if I don’t always understand. This program is part of the Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection.

Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection - Loren Cunningham (DVD)

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

Loren Cunningham was born in California in 1935. His missionary parents worked among the poor in the Southwest, preached in the streets and lived in a tent with boxes for furniture. At age 13, he had his first conviction of a call to world mission. Later he had a vision of the world covered with waves of young people taking the Gospel to all the nations of the earth. Cunningham decided to work interdenominationally, so in 1960 he founded YWAM (Youth with a Mission). It become one of the largest missionary organizations in the world, recruiting young people to work for limited periods, in over 100 countries. The young people distribute Bibles and help with humanitarian projects. One of his most remarkable missionary visits was to Libya, a country hostile to Western missionaries. In 1991 he went with a YWAM team to remote Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific, and thereby achieved the distinction of having become the first missionary group to reach every country in the world. This program is part of the Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection.

Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection - Jackie Pullinger (DVD)

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

Jackie Pullinger comes from the Kensington section of London, England. She is probably best-known for her book, Crack in the Wall. She arrived in Hong Kong in 1966 and learned to love the physically poor and morally poor people she found there. She believes wherever it is most dark must be the easiest place for the light to shine. Unafraid in the midst of addicts, pushers and gangsters, she says, I always said I was there about Jesus. They accepted me in His name. In time, as she says, We got proud. The power of the Spirit had brought people to Christ, but now there were fewer and fewer. Told that she was under a curse, she was freed after she was prayed for twenty-seven hours. Work resumed. God was kind. Other places seek her aid, When you’re famous for working with the poor, the poor say: ‘Come’. This program is part of the Christian Catalyst VIPS Collection.

Thoughts/Words/Reviews:

The words of the voiceless, like Christ’s, are often impractical, inconvenient, and unpredictable. Yet, above all, they’re a relief.
